SYLNP Full Board Endorsement
June 19, 2013
A well attended workshop held in Barnsley on 17th April endorsed the establishment of a new South Yorkshire Local Nature Partnership.
The Local Nature Partnership will champion the natural environment and help to ensure it is enhanced and conserved for future generations by removing obstacles to investment and creating settings for growth. The Partnership is made up of a wide range of groups and organisations across South Yorkshire including environmental and health organisations, NGOs, the Local Enterprise Partnership, Sheffield Hallam University, all four South Yorkshire Local Authorities and local businesses.
The South Yorkshire Local Nature Partnership is one of 48 LNPs across England, all supported by the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The role of the LNP will be, amongst other things, to designate new Nature Improvement Areas. It is anticipated that the Partnership will help secure external funding to carry out its strategic priorities.
The Local Nature Partnership Board made up from the public, voluntary/NGO and private sectors, will manage the Partnership via quarterly Board meetings.
