Sheffield celebrates Wicker bridge opening
May 11, 2012
The bridge opening was accompanied by the launch of a new interpretative board, unveiled by Sheffield Lord Mayor Coun Sylvia Dunkley.
The bridge is part of a partnership project between South Yorkshire Forest and Sheffield’s city development division.
The new interpretative board commemorates the achievements of Henry Seebohm, a steelmaster, ornithologist and explorer who lived between 1832 and 1895.
Tom Wild, SYFP’s Director said “we are delighted to be contributing to this important project making the most of the river and celebrating the historic centre of the city. The project helps reduce flood risks as well as improving access to the river, which is becoming a real asset for citizens, businesses and visitors.”
The launch events was one of the highlights of the highly successful conference Green Growth New Shoots, which attracted over 200 delegates from Sweden, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands as well as from all over the UK.
