Government launches national Green Infrastructure Partnership
October 17, 2011
Last week saw the launch of a new forum to promote green infrastructure. This comes at an important time as consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework draws to a close. This includes proposals that the presence of a Community Forest Partnership should be a material consideration in all planning decisions for applications within a Forest Plan boundary.
The Community Forests have long pioneered the importance of green infrastructure to underpin the delivery of sustainable development principles. More information on green infrastructure can be found at www.greeninfrastructure.co.uk.
According to Defra, the Green Infrastructure Partnership fulfils a commitment made in the Natural Environment White Paper. The partnership will bring together expertise in civil society, professional bodies, local authorities, developers, planners and social housing enterprises, among others to see what more can be done. More news about the launch of the partnership can be found at the Defra website here.
The economic value of green infrastructure and its associated benefits to competitiveness of city regions is the topic of our VALUE project.
