This Saturday visitors to the South Yorkshire Wood Fair will see four local artists race against the clock as they attempt to carve off the competition in the Makita Chainsaw Challenge.
Simon Kent, Lorraine Botterill, Brian Proctor and Mark Bell will be 'chainsaw ready' at 2.30pm and will have just 30 minutes to produce a finished sculpture. The audience will be asked to vote for the best work of art using the traditional clap-o-meter method and the winner will walk away with a spangly new chainsaw courtesy of Makita. Even the saw- losers will be happy though as all the sculptures will be auctioned off at the end of the competition with money raised going towards community tree planting projects in South Yorkshire.
Now in its 7th year - its 3rd at Endcliffe Park - Wood Fair promises something for everyone; whether you want to try your hand at craft activities, have a go at a mountain bike course, buy locally made gifts, furniture and art or just enjoy the spectacle of the fantastic fiery finale. Don't miss this free family festival. 11am - 7pm Saturday October 4th.
